Battle Beast with Blackbriar at Varsity Theater 05.15.2024
Last night, I was at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown to see the Finnish power metal band Battle Beast on their first headlining tour with the Dutch folk/metal band Blackbriar. I did the meet and greet with Battle Beast. I got pictures with the band, and their autographs and a few goodies (a reuseable tote bag, sticker, and a button or badge (not sure what it is).
Blackbriar was really good live. I have listened to their music online but I like their folk/metal sound better live. I got a lot of Celtic vibes from their music. I would totally see them again live. I thought they were a good fit with Battle Beast (unlike Tarja's opening act at last year's show at the same venue which was not my cup of tea). I hope they can get opportunities to tour the US again with other bands. I would like to see them again live.
As for Battle Beast, I was not disappointed. They played a good mix of music from their current album Circus of Doom and their previous album No More Hollywood Endings. I couldn't find a full set list of last night's set but it definitely looked like their set list from last summer when they opened up for Kamelot. I was kinda hoping to hear "World on Fire" from No More Hollywood Endings and "Freedom" from Circus of Doom but it really is no big deal. They played "Eye of the Storm", "Beyond the Burning Skies", "Eden", and "Wings of Light", my favorite Battle Beast songs. As a live act, Battle Beast don't mess around. I was thoroughly entertained. I liked that the band gave Noora the occasional breather in between songs.
According to Noora, this headlining tour is the last leg of the Circus of Doom tour and then they will get right to work on their 7th album. Definitely recommend seeing the band live. The band clearly loves performing live and it shows during their performances.
In the meantime, enjoy my photos and videos from the show.
