New Japanese Metal Albums to Check Out

In the past 1-2 weeks, I have been seeing some fantastic new releases by various metal bands from Japan such as Alicetopia, East of Eden, and Schonberg.

Schonberg: Resurrection

Schonberg was the first J-metal band I got into when I began my journey into the heavy metal scenes in East and Southeast Asia back in 2021. They are a symphonic metal band. Their lead singer Naru had to step away for health issues but they recently started making a comeback in 2023/2024, and yesterday released their first new album since Baroque Gravity in 2020.

The Sheglapes: Mother

The Sheglapes is a power metal band from Japan. While they are not as well known as say Lovebites or Band-Maid, the eight year old band is just as talented. Mother is their latest release.

Alicetopia: Haze of Scarlet

Alicetopia is a dark fantasy metal band. Haze of Scarlet just dropped on Wednesday along with the new Schonberg album. It is a solid good metal band.

Fathomless Skywalker: Anthems of the Resilient

I discovered Fathomless Skywalker through YouTube in 2022 or 2023. The band had released a handful of singles. They finally released their debut full-length album which I have been waiting for some time now. The wait was definitely worth it. I love the blend of pirate metal and symphonic metal.

East of Eden: The First Eden - Seeds of Hope
East of Eden is a fairly new Japanese metal/rock band. They have dropped a couple of EPs over the past 2 years, and now they just released their first full length album Seeds of Hope. I really liked what I have heard. Definitely worth checking out.

Serenity in Murder: Timeless Reverie

Another band I discovered through YouTube.I became an immediate fan of the melodic death metal band.  Ayumu is the current lead singer of the band but before her was Emi. Ayumu has really developed nicely as a singer on the new album Timeless Reverie. I love that the band re-did a new version of one of their songs in the Emi era "Noticed This is the Betrayal". The new version is as aggressive and melodic as the original version. I enjoy both versions.
