Best of April - my playlist of my favorite songs I listened to in April.

My taste in music has been all over the place. Listened to a lot of Joe Hisaishi because I went to Chicago last week to see him with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. If/when he comes back to Chicago, I will definitely be there. 

Monsta X's Unfold > BTS's Arirang. There I said it. I wanted to like Arirang but I could not like it save for a few songs. IMO there is some tooth to recent cultural appropriation discourse on the internet with this album. I watched the Netflix documentary on BTS earlier this month. Seeing images of the group in their early days was super cringe. Yikes! Not in a good way. IThe rapping by BTS is pretty cringe. I completely recognize why there is a recent discussion of kpop culturally appropriating the sounds of Black American music. The reason for Kpop's sound is derives from the influences Black American soldiers had on Korean people over the years. If anything, some blame goes towards the US military and the occupation of American soldiers in Korea. I do recommend listening to the podcast Kpop Dreaming on the history of Kpop. Anyhoo, I much prefer the new Monsta X album when it comes to Kpop. Better hooks, better lyrics, better sound but I always liked Monsta X more so than BTS.
