My Current Favorite Songs of the Week
TGIF! Here is this week's mix. Enjoy!
Some thoughts: At the time of this mix, the new Serenity in Murder album Timeless Reverie was not on Spotify yet because it came out today. I will have a new song on next week's mix. Based on my initial listen, the new album by the Japanese melodic death metal band did not disappoint me. It is a top notch banger from start to finish. Love the addition of Freddy's (guitarist) clean vocals to go with Ayumu's gutteral vocals. Also love that they recorded an older song from their days with Emi called "Noticed This is the Betrayal". Both versions are fantastic.
I definitely plan on making a trip to Electric Fetus this weekend to see if they have a copy of the new Lacuna Coil album Sleepless Empire. I have been streaming the album frequently since it came out. On the other end of the musical spectrum, I have been enjoying the hell out of the new EP by Angie K. Angie K. . Angie K. is an independant artist in the Americana scene I discovered a couple of years ago through NPR's All Songs Considered and music critic Ann Powers.
I finally got around to listen to Duel by the Ukrainian metal band Jinjer. I like it but it isn't my absolute favorite metal release of 2025. Their song "Someone's Daughter" is a banger though. I do like it, just don't love it as much as the new albums by Lacuna Coil, Serenity in Murder, and the Belarus symphonic metal band Belle Morte whom I recently discovered online and they are feature on this week's playlist.
