Albums of the Week

During the last several days, I acquired some new music in the mail, from Bandcamp as well as bought in store. Instead of chosing one of the six albums, I decided to make them all my Albums of the Week.

The Linda Lindas: The Linda Lindas

Love these pre-teens. They have a lot of energy and talent. Love that Epitaph Records quickly signed them after their performance at a library in LA. Their new single "Oh!" is catchy AF and reminds me of early Go Go's before they made it big.

Sungoddess: Zangai

I discovered this female fronted black metal band on YouTube. Definitely worth the long ass wait from Japan. The music is dark and heavy mixed with some beautiful operatic vocals. I really love this band's sound.

Serenity in Murder: The Highest Dystopia

I just adore Serenity in Murder. They are easily my favorite band  of 2021 as well as metal band (and not just from Asia and Japan too). The Highest Dystopia is the band's second album with former singer Emi who has just a ferocious set of pipes on the three albums she sang with the band. The Eclipse is certainly my top favorite SIM album however there is no least favorite in the band's catalog. All their albums are fantastic. The Highest Dystopia has some killer tracks such as "Noticed This Is The Betrayal" and  "Nocturnal Damned".

Ancient Myth: ArcheoNyx

Since ArcheoNyx in its entirety is currently not on any streaming platform there was no way I would not buy this album. Ancient Myth is definitely my favorite symphonic metal band from Japan next to Schonberg. Their singer Michal has a beautiful voice and it really shows on the band's newest release. Songs like "Song of Siren" and "Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" are an excellent testament to how great of a range Michal has as a singer.

Over the past weekend, I made a trip to the record store (aka Electric Fetus). It was my first trip to the store since the pandemic began last year. It felt good to be back there again. I ended up perusing the metal section and bought these 2 albums. Never heard of Burning Witches or Surma but I decided to buy their albums. I have no regrets. Both albums are great. I need to check out Burning Witches other album. They remind me of Judas Priest and Battle Beast.

Burning Witches: The Witch of the North

Surma: The Light Within
