Album of the week

Now that the Songs of Our Native Daughters is officially out (it was officially released last Friday) and Black History Month is coming to an end, I thought now would be appropriate to make it this week's Album of the Week . I first became aware of the project when I saw a post about the project on Facebook courtesy of Birds of Chicago back in January. After hearing a few tracks between January and prior to the album release, it didn't take me much  to be convinced to preorder the album. I also quickly became a massive fan of all the women in the group which really began last year when I discovered Birds of Chicago (Allison Russell's band) on Spotify. Slowly but sure I worked my way through Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah, and Leyla McCalla's music. All the women are talented in their own right. I listen to their body of work at the office every day. To hear the women sing and perform together on one album is a real treat. I have posted some links to articles about the album and the subject matter of the music. Out of respect I am not going to discuss it since it is African American history is not my place to have an opinion. I will say collaborations are amazing and the music is so worth hearing. I also posted a link to where to buy the album. The CD booklet is so worth buying the CD. There is a good wealth of information about the music and inspiration behind the album, along with the lyrics. Do not be surprised to see this album on my best of 2019 list. It is that good.
