Guilty Pleasure of the Week: Sarina Paris by Sarina Paris

Today I was editing my Guilty Pleasures playlist when a name from the past popped in my head...Sarina Paris, a Canadian pop singer. Sarina released a super catchy pop album in 2001. I am not embarrassed or ashamed that I love this pop album. Now that I am getting older, I realize I should not be ashamed for liking (some) pop music and Sarina Paris is definitely one of those albums I .

Album of the week: Growing Pains by The Lioness

Today on my morning break at work, I came across this interview with local rapper the Lioness. I will let the article speak for itself. I will say that the interview piqued my curiosity. I gave her new full length album Growing Pains a listen a couple of times. I totally dug what I have heard. So shout to Minneapolis native The Lioness for putting out a killer rap album. Definitely worthy to be featured as my album of the week here on my blog.

Weekly Playlist for 06.27.16 - 07.03.16

For this week's weekly playlist, I put together a playlist of my favorite songs by Marsheaux, one of my favorite electro bands in recent years. I thought I would showcase their work in a playlist for those not familiar with the electro band from Greece. I think I discovered them through Facebook or maybe Youtube. I can't remember. It was like five years ago and have been a big fan since then.

Guilty Pleasure of the Week: Solstice by Scala and Kolacny Brothers

For this week's Guilty Pleasure of the Week, I picked the new album by Scala and Kolacny Brothers titled Solstice. It recently came out this month. Scala and Kolacny Brothers consists of Scala, a girls choir and the Kolacny brothers Steven and Stijin. I have been a fan for a few years now. They take pop music and transform them into choral music. The results is interesting the very least on their new album. Unlike their previous album, there are a few bombs on this album. I really did not care for the group's version of "Fat Bottomed Girls" , "Dirty Diana", "Black Hole Sun", and "Barbie Girl". Those tracks just made me cringe. They were super cheesy but not in a good way either. That said their versions of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", "Strong Enough", "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "The One I Love" makes up for those clunkers.

Album Of The Week: Ath.Lon by Marsheaux

Marsheaux is one of my favorite bands in the past few years. They really can't do no wrong in my eyes. Their brand of electropop is undeniably infectious. The duo recently released a new album this month called Ath.Lon. I was definitely not disappointed.

Weekly Playlist for 06.20.16 - 06.26.16

It has been a few years since I have listened to Tori Amos so last week before my four day weekend, I created a Tori Amos playlist. It consists of all my favorite Tori Amos songs from Little Earthquakes to The Beekeeper which is when I stopped listening to her music altogether. I stopped listening to her music a few years ago because my taste in music changed over the years. Still dig her earlier stuff.

Guilty Pleasure of The Week: Lauren Christy by Lauren Christy

Lately I have been on a '90s kick. Been listening to a lot of modern rock music from the decade. One of the artists I have been listening to in the past week is Lauren Christy. Lauren had a minor hit with her song "Steep" a beautiful ballad. I forgot what movie it was in but her song "The Color of the Night" was used in a cheesy Bruce Willis movie in the '90s. I totally forgot about Lauren until I came across one of her songs on Spotify. I quickly looked her up and found her self-titled album. I totally forgot how much I love Lauren's self-titled album. Her music kinda reminds me of Tori Amos' music minus the esoteric lyrics.

Album Of The Week: Blood Solo EP by Lianne La Havas

Last week I was going through back episodes of my favorite podcast Another Round when I discovered the artist Lianne La Havas on one of the older episodes. Judging by the brief samples I heard on the podcast, I liked what I heard. I then went onto Spotify and fortunately for me found her music. Her music is very soulful.

Weekly Playlist for 06.13.16 - 06.19.16

For this week's playlist, I am posting my '90s playlist I created last week. Some of songs are non-singles. When I was putting together this playlist by using google, it made me realize just how much crappy music there was in the '90s. LOL! Still the decade had a plethora of great music. In the fall I am getting to see two of my favorite bands from that decade perform live in Chicago...Belly and Lush, and next month I am seeing the band Garbage. Now if only Curve would reunite. :::sigh:::

Guilty Pleasure of the Week: Bad Animals by Heart

Lately I have been going back in time listening to music I was into as a teenager. When I was in high school, I was a huge Heart fan. I loved their self-titled album, Bad Animals, and Brigade. My first rock concert was Heart at the Target Center with Cheap Trick. This week I have been listening a lot to Bad Animals. It is not a perfect album since the last two tracks are my least favorites (as well as the title track) on the entire album however it is still a fun, enjoyable album to listen to while at work or on the way to work.

Album of the Week: Love You to Death by Tegan and Sara

For the past few days, I have been listening a lot to the new Tegan and Sara album Love You to Death. I am not disappointed in what I am hearing. The album definitely picks up where Heartthrob left off both lyrically and musically. I never been much of a Tegan and Sara fan before Heartthrob but I am now. I am glad the duo continued with the electropop sound. If you enjoyed Heartthrob, you will enjoy Love You to Death.

Guilty Pleasure Of The Moment: Runaway Horses by Belinda Carlisle

Lately I have been listening to a lot of pop music from the '80s and '90s. One of my favorite pop albums is Belinda Carlisle's solo album Runaway Horses. It is easily one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I have been a fan of the album since I was a teenager when I first heard the single "Leave A Light On".While I enjoy Belinda's other solo albums, Runaway Horses is and always will be my personal favorite. The only track on the album I am not particularly fond is the title track but asides from that dud, the rest of the album is pure pop perfection. It is really difficult to listen to this album and not get one or all of the songs stuck in your head. That is how damn catchy the songs are.  After all these years (try 27 years), this album still holds up well.
