My top 5 favorite synthpop albums of 2012

Today at work I was listening to a bunch of synthpop albums that I bought this year (and were released this year too) and it inspired me to write about them. This is not a final list. I am sure I will find some more synthpop albums to buy ;).

Chrom: Synthetic Movement

I always seems to come back to Synthetic Movement with all the new music I acquire. Synthetic Movement is easily one of my favorite albums of 2012. I just love this album especially Christian Marquis' deep, warm vocals.

Moonlight Cove: Hearts of the World

Hearts of the World is another synthpop album I have yet to get sick and tired of listening to. The music is absolutely beautiful.

Future Perfect: Escape

Escape and Future Perfect in general is one of my top 5 favorite discoveries of 2012. I just love the male/female dynamics between Simon Owen and Rebecca Morgan. I also think they are grossly overlooked in the synthpop scene here in the US. At least to me they are.

Mari Chrome: Georgy #11811

Like I haven't gushed about this band before but I will again. I just love Mari Chrome and their sound. This was one of my most anticipated 2012 releases of this year. Their music is so damn catchy and thanks to singer Marion Kuchenmeister, I quickly learned of her other band Invisible Limits.

Twitch the Ripper: Colorblind

I recently acquired Colorblind at my local record store. I really wasn't planning on getting it but when I saw it in the cd racks, I decided to get it instead of the new De/Vision album. I am glad I did. Colorblind reminds me so much of Depeche Mode when they were still putting out good music. The album definitely made me a huge fan.

"Feed" (new single) by Wiping Out Thousands

Just heard the new single "Feed" by my new favorite local band Wiping Out Thousands. It sounds fantastic if you ask me but that's just my $0.02 ;).

Their new album This Came First will be available for free on 10/23 on the band's bandcamp page.

Here is this year's Halloween themed track from Miss FD "Down in the Dungeon".

I think it is pretty catchy to say the very least.

The Jesus and Mary Chain at First Avenue 09.18.12

The Jesus and Mary Chain at First Avenue

My pictures of The Jesus and Mary Chain

I can genuinely say that last night's show was not the best concert I have seen this year or ever. The first two opening bands were terrible and I was bored beyond tears with the way their music went on and on and on. The Psychic Paramont went on and on like there was no tomorrow. Their long-winded music reminded me why I strongly dislike prog-rock and any band whose music drones on like there is no tomorrow. As for The Jesus and Mary Chain's set, it was plagued with technical difficulties. I am glad I got to see them live but that show was anything but the best I have seen in years. Would I go see them again? After last night most likely not.

I know the photos are crap. Just didn't have the best spots to see the band. Didn't want to waste my battery on the two opening bands.

CHIASM Petals video

"Petals" is a preview track off the upcoming CHIASM album 11:11. Sounds fucking killer if you ask me.

FYI...I'm not going to be online much for the next few days (got company coming over) so I may or may not get to post anything until Thursday or Friday.

Albums I am currently listening to

Dead Can Dance: Anastasis

Icon of Coil: Machines are Us

Dido: No Angel

Delerium: Karma

Grimes: Visions

Tearwave: Different Shade of Beauty

Twitch the Ripper: Colorblind

Ikon: Subversion

Got a bunch of new music in the last few weeks, especially today when I hit the Electric Fetus' garage sale.I decided to go inside the store first to see what they had in stock. I almost got the new De/Vision album Rockets and Swords but I quickly changed my tune when I saw Colorblind by Twitch the Ripper. I am glad I got the album. As a huge synthpop fan, Colorblind is pure bliss. The Grimes album Visions is excellent. I almost forgot that she was coming to town next month so I bought my ticket online tonight. I missed owning Karma and No Angel so I picked up those cds today. Out of curiousity, I bought the single "Subversion" by IKON. Really liked what I had heard on it. The IOC album was bought at the show I went to earlier this week and I had the DCD new album for 2-3 weeks now. Love both albums.

Right now I am still waiting for The Bellwether Syndicate EP to be released and recently ordered the latest And One cd which should arrive next week. Next month, I will be getting the new albums by Caustic, In Strict Confidence and The Birthday Massacre.

Icon of Coil - Minneapolis, MN 09.12.12

Icon of Coil Minneapolis Show

Another Kilted Farmer Koncerts show has come and gone. I had a blast last night. Of course I bought the VIP package for the show so I could meet the band. Unfortunately Sebastian was stuck in customs so he couldn't make it to the show :(. On the up side, I got to see Chris Norris (Erica Dunham's better half) again after meeting him 2 years ago at the Unter Null show. I was thrilled he recognized me after all that time. Andy of IOC/Combichrist/Scandy/Panzer Ag also recognized me (I should hope so after doing the VIP for Combichrist the last 2 times they were in town). So me and a few others got to meet and chat with Andy and Christian. They also signed posters and took pix too. I ended up buying a IOC towel and a copy of Machines Are Us.

The show itself was a lot of fun. All four bands put on excellent performances. I am always impressed with Gabriel and the Apocalypse's live set. Granted the two local bands Dissociate and GATA didn't play long, they still managed to put on two killer live sets. SITD was as good as they were when I first saw them four years ago with Imperative Reaction and Aesthetic Perfection. They performed for about an hour or so. Loved every second of their set. Icon of Coil totally lived up to my expectations. I had trouble taking pix of Andy because he moved around on stage so much. I eventually gave up and just started dancing to the music. I could feel the energy of the audience as everyone danced to IOC's music. I kinda wished they performed "Everlasting" but overall I was very happy with the set list. All in all, it was a good night. I saw many of my peeps at the club and met some new people. Good music, good times.

City Pages's review of Metric's show

Vita Mn's Metric concert review

I thought both articles were pretty spot on . I loved watching Emily run around the stage. She had a ton of energy. Here is my favorite moment of the show. What a great number. Loved it :).
