Weekly Playlist for 06/22-06/28

After finally seeing my favorite band from high school Babes in Toyland last night at Rock the Garden, I thought for this week's playlist it will be all about Babes in Toyland. I can definitely say I was not disappointed in what I heard. The band sounded amazing. I got my $69 worth out of their performance. I have some pictures from the show  in my Photobucket folder Other Concerts I have Attended.

Old and New Favorite Songs of the Week

Old Favorite Songs:
IAMX: Running

My all time favorite IAMX song. Love the heartfelt lyrics and the melodies. I am so looking forward to seeing IAMX in October.

Babes in Toyland: Magick Flute

My favorite song off "Fontanelle". I hope the band plays this song on Sunday at Rock the Garden. So excited that I will be finally seeing them for the first time.

Limahl: Neverending Story

I can never get sick of this classic from the '80s.

New Favorite Songs:
Kaskade: Angel On My Shoulder

I was listening to the latest Kaskade album on my commute home from work. This song quickly became my jam of the moment.

Marcoda: My Imagine

Really digging the new stuff from Marcoda which features ex-Empyrean Asunder member Jerry Barksdale. Sad to see Empyrean Asunder go but I love what I am hearing from Marcoda.

Pegasus Asteroid: They Hate Us

Old and New Favorite Songs

Old Favorite Songs:

It is a mixed bag this week for old favorite songs. I recently came across "Not In My Name" on Spotify last weekend. It is one of the few songs I like on Tohuvabohu. I always liked it when Lucia would sing lead vocals. Too bad this was the album that made me realize that it was time to move on from KMFDM's music.

Like many Nightwish fans, I really wasn't crazy about Anette Olzon but I did like a few songs she sung with the band, "Amaranth" being one of the songs. The other day I came across a video on youtube of the Minnesota Lynx playing against the Atlanta Dream for the WNBA title in 2011 and "Amaranth" was used for the music. I ended up falling in love with the song all over again.

Lately I have been enjoying super cheesy '90s europop music while at work. My current favorite song right now is Amber's "Can You Feel the Love". Super catchy song.

New Favorite Songs:

Over the weekend I picked up the soundtrack to The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked most of the music on it. I especially like the Bat for Lashes track but then again you really can't go wrong with anything by Bat For Lashes.

Still loving SPC ECO's Dark Matter album. "I Won't Be Heard" is my current favorite track from the album at the moment.

After attending the Purity Ring show last night, I have been checking out some of Born Gold and Braids' music online. I really like w hat I have heard from Braids so far.

Purity Ring at First Avenue

Just got back from First Avenue tonight to see the Canadian duo Purity Ring with Born Gold and Braids (both also from Canada). I got to the show a little late because I didn't get off work until 4:30 (already had gone in early because of a dentist appointment and needed to use that time to make up for the time gone to get my teeth cleaned). I stopped by Chipotle to pick up some dinner so I could eat something before the show. By the time I got to First Avenue, Born Gold was already performing. I'll just let the youtube clips speak for itself about the band's sound. From what I heard, I enjoyed what I heard from Born Gold.

The music is definitely very poppy but not very mainstream. Super catchy as hell. They were highly entertaining to see live.

Braids' music was quite good too.

Both bands reminded me of Purity Ring. They both blended electronica and pop music together quite well. The songs had good pop hooks too.

Purity Ring was fantastic. The stage setting was beautiful with the hanging lights. In case you missed my pictures, you can find them on my Instagram account. The band performed both old and new songs. It was a fantastic concert which one cannot miss seeing, the band is a very visual live band. As new fan who has never seen the band perform live, it was a real treat to see Purity Ring live. They sounded just as good live as they do on CD. I definitely recommend checking out their new album. I am really glad I opted to go to the early show than stay with the later show.

Weekly Playlist for 06/08-06/14

In honor of the upcoming KMFDM show at Mill City Nights, I decided to put together a playlist of my favorite KMFDM songs.

One of the bands opening up for KMFDM is Inertia. Check out their 2012 release Universal Blood which was one of my favorite releases from that year.

My ten favorite Delerium songs

Tonight after watching the Minnesota Lynx clobber Indiana Fever in Indiana, I put in my favorite Delerium album Poem into my stereo. It quickly inspired me to share my 10 favorite songs from one of my favorite electronic bands from the '90s.

10. Paris

This song was from their Best of album released in 2004. It is one of the few more poppier songs that I honestly enjoy (a lot of it has been a mix bag for me). I just love the sample from Pachelbel's "Canon" in this song.

09. Shroud

This song is from their darkwave/ambient days on Cleopatra and on the album Syrophenikan. Really like the tribal percussion rhythms on this track.

08. Otherworld

Taken from the album Spheres II It is my favorite track from that album. This is not as dark as some of the band's darkwave/ambient music. It is more light with the chimes.

07. Fragments Of Fear

From the album Morpheus.

06. Monarch

Music Box Opera wasn't an awful album like some of the more recent albums by Delerium but it sure as heck isn't one of their best. My problem with their current sound is that it has gotten way too poppy. I do love this particular track because it has a bit of a Middle Eastern flair to it thanks to singer Nadina.

05. Angelicus

The only song I like off Nuanges Du Monde which I felt was the worst album Delerium put out.

04. After All

One of the few songs I liked on Chimera.

03. Flowers Become Screens

So many great songs on Semantic Spaces but this is one of my personal favorite songs.

02. Enchanted

From Karma.

01. A Poem For Byzantium

From Poem, this always has and always will be my favorite Delerium song. Love the l yrics, vocals, and music.

Throwback Thursday: Project Pitchfork with Ayria and As/Of at The Triple Rock Social Club

Throwback Thursday time again! I was going through my Photobucket account, I realized I didn't have the 2013 Project Pitchfork and Ayria concert uploaded, instead a duplicate of their 2010 show at Ground Zero. So here is photos and videos from the 2013 show.

My favorite releases of 2015 (so far)

Well it's June, just halfway through 2015. I have to admit 2015 has been not as good as the last 3 years for music with me.  I haven't been buying much music lately for various reasons (trips and tattoos...lol), and some I wasn't impressed with (i.e Blutengel and Solitary Experiments). It isn't to say that I haven't heard any good music. I just haven't heard as much as I have in the past 2-3 years. That said, I thought I would share with my readers my favorite releases from 2015 (so far).

Dark Matter is my current favorite album at the moment. The music is a mix of everything I love...shoegaze, trip hop, dreampop. Of course one of the members used to be in my favorite '90s alt-rock band Curve...Dean Garcia.

Another great release I have heard this year. Imagine The Luna Sequence with vocals.

A grossly underrated release by an equally underrated band.

Love this tribute album to De/Vision. The interpretations by various synthpop acts is fantastic.

Camouflage: Greyscale

Fantastic synthpop album from the legendary synthpop band. I definitely recommend buying it.

Ego Likeness: When The Wolves Return - yeah I bought the new album at their show. I have been totally digging the new Ego Likeness album. Ego Likeness can do no wrong in my book.

I had no doubts Floor would make for a great lead singer for Nightwish. Not only does she kill it on the old Nightwish songs in concert but she sounds amazing on the new music. Anyone who has doubts about her needs to go see Nightwish for their upcoming second leg of the American tour next year. She just kills it in concert on a couple of songs from the album Oceanborn.

My go to album when I am not in the mood for heavy metal, industrial or synthpop music. I love how well this group harmonizes. Fantastic music.

Dekadenz is easily my favorite futurepop album of 2015. I enjoy listening to the latest albums by Angels and Agony and Neuroticfish but Frozen Plasma knocks their albums straight out of the ballpark with their latest release with their talent for writing super catchy pop hooks and club friendly beats.

Unfortunately I haven't heard much local music this year. The debut by Moon and Pollution is the only local album I have heard so far this year.

I also love VNV Nation's album Resonance. Very well done. I love the classical interpretations of their music.

Daybehavior: Change

Tonight I just discovered that synthpop band Daybehavior recently released a new single/video called "Change" from their new, upcoming album Based On a true Story. I almost forgot how much I like Daybehavior. The song is ridiculously catchy.

I also recommend checking out their previous albums. I am particularly fond of Have You Ever Touched a Dream?.

Weekly Playlist for 06/01-06/07

In honor of the recent news about Freezepop's show at The Nether Bar next month, I put together a playlist of Freezepop songs for fans and those not familiar with the band's music.

Opening for the band is Minnesota based acts Dance Assault and The Electric Witch. I have included music by both bands.
