My current favorite songs of the week

Happy Weekend ya'll! I thought the weekend would never get here. Today has been amazing day for new music. Holygram, The KVB, Kaelan Mikla, Ash Code, Lycia, Indarra,  and Sarah Brightman all released new albums today. I have not listened to the new Lycia album yet but the others I have given a listen to. Really dug the new Holygram, Indarra, Kaelan Mikla, and Sarah Brightman albums. The albums by The KVB and Ash Code needs some more time for the music to grow on me. I didn't expect so much darkwave music to drop in one day but there was.

My favorite band at the moment is Kaelan Mikla. They are from Iceland. I had kept seeing ads for their new album on Facebook so much so one day I decided to listen to what one of their songs on bandcamp and was immediately hooked.

While perusing Spotify, I realized supergroup post-punk band Poptone has an album out. The album has a few good songs but overall I really wasn't feeling the album as a whole. I prefer Peter Murphy's solo work than Poptone's music. Their sound is so all over the place I just was turned off by it.

After dropping $100 on my ticket for Massive Attack next March, I am still debating whether to go to the Birds of Chicago show at the Dakota. I was not expecting to spend so much $$$ on my MA ticket but it is a once in a lifetime show. Plus I am going to see VNV Nation just a few days before Birds of Chicago's gig at the Dakota, and I will want some merch from the show. That said I have been listening a lot to their latest album Love in Wartime album quite a bit this week. I love listening to it in the evenings after work when I winding down for the night. My favorite song by the band at the moment is "Superlover". It is currently stuck in my head. I can't complain.

Back to Massive Attack, in honor of their concert with Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins and Horace Andy, I had to include "Teardrop" on my playlist. This will be an amazing show.

Towards the end of my work day, I just realized that Indarra released her new album Walk On Fire. I started listening to it at work and then in its entirety on my afternoon commute home from work. It is is a fantastic album. The music reminds me a bit of Azam Ali/Niyaz but with a pop twist. Love the album so much, I bought it via Metropolis Records' bandcamp page.

I got some oldies but goodies on my playlist. And there are some tracks by Alien Vampires, Morcheeba, and Dead Can Dance that should be heard.

Songs to check out:
"Nornalagio" by Kaelan Mikla
"Colour of the Rising Sun" by Indarra
"1997" by Holygram
"Wonders" by VNV Nation
"Teardrop" by Massive Attack
"Silent Exchange" by Adult.
