Random Thoughts: Lollapalooza's sausage fest

Yesterday Lollapalooza made public this year's line up. The first thing that popped up in my mind when I saw the top tier acts...sausage fest. All the women were shoved to the third tier (originally they were at the fourth tier) according to this article from Refinery 29. Not a huge improvement. Also I take this as a form of segregation. This is far worse than the fact that I have never heard of 90% of the acts. Female artists definitely deserves better treatment by the folks who run Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza is nothing more than Pitchfork festival and Coachella minus the obnoxious z-list celebrities but still with the annoying hipster/millenial crowds.

Looking at the list, the festival could have worked a little harder at finding other female artists to perform at Lollapalooza. I'm thrilled hometown girl Lizzo is included but she deserves better than to be in the third tier as does Lykki Li. What a crap thing to do as well as a crap list. Today at work I put together a list of female artists/bands that would have been perfect for the festival instead of a mostly sausage fest:

Cindy Wilson (B-52s)
Zola Jesus
The Breeders
L7
Margo Price
Alice Glass
Brandi Carlile
Death Valley Girls
Chelsea Wolfe
Belly
Miniatures
Muna
Kitten
LIGHTS
HIDE
Dessa
Ness Nite
Screaming Females
Courtney Barnett
Haim
Liz Phair

It is a damn shame that festivals really don't more effort to be more inclusive for female artists. Glad I rather spend my money on other things like tattoos than travel to another city/state for a pretentious music festival where women at the bottom of the food chain.
