Playlist of the week

Two weekends ago, I went over to the library to peruse the CD racks. One of the albums I picked out was Little Earthquakes. I immediately fell in love with the album again as well as reignite my interest in Tori Amos's music. Over the weekend, I put together a playlist of my favorite songs from Tori Amos. I admit I mostly fond of her earlier music. Her music in recent years has been inconsistent for me and eventually I just moved on with my life however albums like Little Earthquakes and From the Choirgirl Hotel remains my faves.

I have seen Tori live about 4-5 times, quit going to her shows because some of her (mostly white) fan base is annoying as fuck. I remember sitting in the state theatre (or the Orpheum) and seeing a group of women dancing in front of me and others in my row, eventually they were escorted out of the venue for being a nuisance in a sit down show. Yeah that was the last time I went to see Tori Amos live. Damn shame some of her nutty fans ruined the experience before me because Tori is amazing live. One show she did a cover of "Purple Rain" as an encore performance, one of the best songs Tori has covered live.

The first time I saw Tori live was in 2001, a month after the terrorist attacks on 9.11.01. The show was quite somber. I think it was part of her encore but Tori did a moving cover of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat". That just brought me to tears. Definitely one of my favorite concerts I have ever attended as an adult.

Songs to check out:
"Famous Blue Raincoat" (Leonard Cohen cover)
"Raspberry Swirl"
"Tear In Your Hand"
"Carbon"
"Cornflake Girl"
"Somewhere Over a Rainbow" (live)
"Time"
